Place value & saying numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on there size. 

The position of a digit determines its value. When we say numbers we group them with the same hose. For example 4 084 has four thousands,zero hundreds,eight tens & 4 ones.

Understanding our base 10 place.Value systems allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also allows us to identify numbers before and after.   

The Highway rat

This week LS1 drew the highway rat on a sheet.When I visualised the highway rat I thought about a rat on a highway. I also thought about a robber.

After we drew the Highway rat we watched TV and we watched the highway rat.My highway rat is different from others because mine doesn't have a road.

We used the visualisation strategy. It means imagining a picture in your head.

I really liked my recreation of the Highway rat because it had some feeling in there mad,happy and sad. 

AFL practice Week 2

Today group A and B played some more AFL ( I was in group A).

 Today we had coach Beccy (Becx)

we both learnt 2 things today tip off and ruck, after that we played a few games of octopus 

Then we packed up the balls to go back to class.

I had a lot of fun and the next time we play I want to kick further then about 6 or 7 steps.

Symphony Maths.

Today I tried to finish my Symphony Maths.

 I was on level 4 or 5,I got about 20 questions right. On the first few levels I got all of them right but on level 3 or 4 I got answers  wrong. 

I really need to keep on working on my addition and subtraction questions that are bigger than 2 digit.

Basic facts box

I did a speed Demon Challenge/Basic Facts Box.

I got a lot of questions right because I only got 10 wrong out of 60.

I need to keep working on my 10s and 100s and my double 20s.

 

SSR selfie

I read 1 page of Goosebumps.

On the first page a girl's mother says don't let the bedbugs bite at her bedtime then her dad comes in and sings bear's picnic. The girl thought that the bears eat children.

I thought that the book was very cool because I liked the song.

AFL practice

This week we were at the school field to do AFL practice,  AFL stands for Australian Football League it also stands for Aussie Rules.

 When we were at the field we learnt how to drop kick, the drop kick is were you have to hold the ball upside down and make sure that the laces are in front. Your fingers hold the ball in a M shape then you drop the ball and kick. Then we learnt the hand pass were you put one hand in holding a plate, then the other hand does a fist shape then swing both arms back and hit.

We played a few games of octopus and a kicking game were you had to kick the ball at the coaches or the

teacher. The coaches names were coach Mike and coach Jack. I was still good at AFL practice. Next time I do this I will try to kick higher and throw further.

Print design rules

I learned about the print design rules.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the print design rules, colour, layout, text and composition.

Next, I figured out which posters were good and bad with my partners.

Last I reorganised a poster to make it look good.

I could improve my poster making by aligning my text on the poster.

LI: to create a well designed poster.

Prototech

 Today I used prototech to learn my basic facts.

I only got most questions right,  I only got 10 questions wrong.

I need to keep working on are my 10s and 100s,also my double 20s.

Handwriting

 I learnt how to write the alphabet,numbers and symbols properly.

I watched a video to show neat handwriting.

I wrote the characters neatly into my writing book.

I need to make my c not so long and make my z not very narrow and my 3 on the bottom not so long.

LS1's 3 ps

Today LS1 learnt about the 3 ps from the Treaty of Waitangi and how it attaches to our learning. 

 First Mr.Ogilvie introduced us to the 3 ps in the Treaty of Waitangi. 

After that we went in groups to write statements about the 3 ps .

LS1 figured out the 3 ps are connected.After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connected to me.

I chose 3 statements because they will help me be successful with my learning in LS1.

Cultural Art

I made a centipede out of twigs.

I chose twigs because twigs are thin and small, and centipedes are thin and small.

I chose to make it because centipedes have 100 legs and 100 is my favourite number.

Also I chose it because centipedes are like caterpillars but with more legs and I like caterpillars.

I have learnt that I can make anything I want if I look around for good resources. 

I never knew how easy it was to make creations before I started to look around my yard.

Next time I will try to make 100 legs like a real centipede.
